All guns blazing for King Charles as he gets the prospect of a new job

The King was all guns blazing as he made a visit to mark another first of his reign.

Charles III was at the Royal Regiment of Artillery for the first time since becoming its Captain General.

The King fired an artillery gun during his tour and made it look so effortless, the sergeant in charge said he’d considered asking the Monarch if he could come back after the weekend and take up the role full time.

King Charles toured the HQ in Larkhill in Wiltshire to meet some of the personnel from the 21 regiments that form up the Royal Regiment to hear about their ongoing work and the training that supports it.

That’s where the guns came in. The King was invited to fire a L118 light gun and quickly accepted the offer, putting on a pair of ear defenders before pulling the firing lever.

One shot was described as ”faultless” and led Sgt Neil Mitchell, of 14 Regiment, 34 Battery to tell The Daily Telegraph ”I was going to ask him if he could start on Monday.”

There was also a chance for The King to see other equipment including fixed winged drones and a multiple launch rocket system.

The visit included a poignant family nod for King Charles who was shown the voluntary artillery officer uniform used by King George V, his great grandfather.

The Royal Regiment of Artillery had earlier welcomed their new Captain General with a 21 gun salute as he arrived at Larkhill.

The King became Captain General on his accession to the throne in September 2022.
