Wedding rumours engulf week’s royal news – but are any true?

Almost every available member of the Royal Family has been the subject of wedding rumours over the last week it seems. From the original thoughts that Princess Beatrice might be marrying Dave Clark and now to the possibility of the Duke of York remarrying Sarah Ferguson as well as Prince Harry wedding rumours – the week has been a veritable smorgasbord of royal wedding rumours – but which (if any) could hold any weight.

Off we go with unpicking the stories to see just how plausible any of these wedding rumours are.

Princess Beatrice

large_9117044060The Princess Beatrice wedding rumour was the first to be reported and was based around Sarah, Duchess of York’s attendance at Balmoral Castle a few weeks ago, despite her not having attended at least in the main castle since before her divorce. The media believed this was possibly Sarah attending in her capacity as ‘mother to the future bride’ as The Queen’s permission is required for any member of the Royal Family to marry at present.

Princess Beatrice has been with boyfriend Dave Clark for over 6 years now and a wedding has been seen as a possibility for quite some time now. Theirs is by far the most well-known relationship and from media reports, the two have always been close. Any wedding would of course be a private affair and not a grand public ceremony a la the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

If this is true, a wedding announcement would typically be made within a month of the engagement, which would make it mid-September before we would be told anything.

The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York

origin_4477324736The Telegraph reported on Sunday that the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York could be considering remarriage, quoting a friend as saying “mark my words, they will remarry”. The article does state that any remarriage would be eventual and doesn’t specify it would be any time soon.

Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York have always remained on excellent terms after their divorce. Princess Eugenie once described them as ‘the best divorced couple I know’ and in an interview on the subject of their parents, the York girls mentioned that the topic of Prince Andrew and Sarah remarrying had been discussed, but that the Princesses say they are happy as things are.

Any remarriage is unlikely to happen during the present reign, though who’s to say what could happen in the future?!

Prince Harry

large__8734811167The Daily Star on Sunday very kindly offered us their ‘exclusive’ on the apparently imminent marriage of Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas this week.

Little is known about the Prince’s relationship with Cressida Bonas, and he likes to keep it that way, but we do know that he has been seeing her for a while and apparently gets on well with her.

The Star, in typical fashion, asserts that we will hear of an engagement before the end of the year.

I would say that a marriage for Prince Harry and Cressida could be on the cards in the not-too-distant future, though I would disagree that it would be necessarily before the end of the year. Prince Harry will be keen to make sure Cressida is fully compatible with him and also with royal life.
