This information comes today as the Prince of Wales prepares to spend a large part of the week on engagement related to business and enterprise. This includes opening new retail space for his charity the Prince’s Trust which will showcase new businesses.

His Royal Highness will also be hosting an event on Wednesday to mark 21 years since he established the Duchy Originals brand. The company was originally setup to provide organic food, the profits from which went to charity – the brand is now exclusive to Waitrose, a company which itslef holds the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales.

On Monday, The Prince of Wales will host a reception for the global network of his charity, Youth Business International (YBI), in the St James’s Palace State Apartments, London.

Other figures released today show that The Prince’s Trust has helped 80,000 young people setup a business since 1983. Earlier this year, The Prince of Wales explained that he founded his Prince’s Trust back in 1976: ‘having felt strongly that many young people’s potential and talent can be wasted and unfulfilled, particularly if they are struggling with difficult circumstances that can so often be beyond their control’.

The Prince explained that his work and the work of his charities continues as it is ‘vitally important’ ‘to inspire and nurture the next generation and, above all, to give them the skills – both practical and social – which they so badly need to succeed in this increasingly challenging world’.

Sir Charles Dunstone, Chairman of TalkTalk and Carphone Warehouse and Chairman of The Prince’s Trust said: “His Royal Highness has led the way and has consistently been responsible for creating more opportunities and giving more of a chance to young entrepreneurs than anyone else over the years. These figures present just a snapshot of the number of lives that have been changed as a result of HRH’s work and do not reflect the knock on effect as many of these individuals also go on to help or employ other people.”

The Prince’s work with aspiring entrepreneurs has been heralded as a success since his charities’ foundation – without the work of the Prince of Wales, many people would have been unable to create their businesses and careers.
