It is not just the UK that has the royal baby news on the front pages of today’s newspapers. Newspapers across the globe are leading with the story and some are doing a souvenir issue.
One such newspaper is the New Zealand Herald, which is leading with the headline “Heir’s baby!” and showing one of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement photos. Australia’s national newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald also leads with the story and the main image is a diagram explaining the line of succession.
Belgium’s De Standaard leads with a picture of the patriotic campers outside the Lindo Wing who have been waiting for the royal baby. The headline translates into “It’s a boy” like many of the front pages both nationally and internationally. Germany’s BILD newspaper also headlines with “It is a boy” and says how much the baby weighs.
Canada’s The Globe and Mail leads with the headline “A Royal Welcome” and features a picture of Buckingham Palace shortly after the easel was placed, with the crowds trying to get a look. USA today is celebrating the royal birth by changing its masthead into a pushchair and notes that this is the first royal baby of the digital age.
Both South Africa’s Cape Times and Norway’s Aftenposten chose the alternative front page picture of the town crier Tony Appleton outside the Lindo Wing yesterday. Norway’s Aftenposten headline translates as “the Prince has come”.
