The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, has announced his resignation after six years in office following the the UK voting to leave the European Union.
Mr Cameron says that he will stay in the role for three more months until October when his successor will replace him.
In a statement outside of Number 10 Downing Street, Mr Cameron said that he has informed Her Majesty The Queen about his decision and the steps forward.
Before he leaves office, Mr Cameron has said that he wants to “steady the ship” over the coming weeks and months.
The news of his resignation comes after the United Kingdom voted leave the European Union in a referendum, despite the Prime Minister’s plea to Remain.
The leave campaign won with 52% of votes, with the remain campaign only getting 48% of votes.
Speculation is now mounting over who will become the new Prime Minister in October. Some popular names being mentioned currently include former Mayor of London Boris Johnson, Home Secretary Theresa May and Minister of State for Energy Andrea Leadsom.
Something as important as that should require more than a 4% lead. That is closer to a flip of a coin,
1 million votes more says enough.
My feeling remain the same. I don’t care that it is a million people I care that it is only 4%. I still feel that a something that effects millions of people should be at least 2/3 majority. I have no say in the outcome because I am not a UK citizen. You must be on the side that won! lol
