Royal Family set to attend remembrance events

Over the following week members of the Royal Family will take part in multiple events to mark Remembrance in England and across the world in Australia.

To start off, The Duke of Edinburgh and his grandson, Prince Harry will visit the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey to pay their respects on 5th November. A tradition that has taken place on the grounds of Westminster since 1928.

Upon arrival, they will be greeted by The Dean of Westminster, the President of the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory and members of The Royal British Legion. Prince Phillip and Prince Harry will lay a Cross of Remembrance in front of two wooden crosses from Graves of Unknown British Soldiers belonging to the First and Second World Wars. Following the laying of the Cross of Remembrance, the Last Post will be sounded before a two minutes’ silence will be observed. After the ceremony, Their Royal Highnesses will visit plots and meet with veterans from past and present conflicts.

On 7 November, Queen Elizabeth, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with many other Members of the Royal Family will attend the Royal Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall – an event that takes place annually.

This year, along with the Cambridges, the Duke of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and Princess Alexandra will be in attendance at the Festival of Remembrance.

Another annual event that the Royal Family takes part in will take place on Sunday 8th November when The Queen and family members lay wreaths at the Cenotaph. Other than The Duke of Cambridge will take place in the Salute at the March Past of Veteran and Civilian Organisations on Horse Guards Parade this year.

Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall who are on tour in New Zealand and Australia from 4-16th November will mark Remembrance Day on 11th November. The royal couple will be in Canberra, Australia on Remembrance Day and will be attending the National Remembrance Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.
