The last coin to feature the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II revealed

The final ever coins to feature the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II have been revealed by the Royal Mint.

A 50p coin depicting the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter franchise will be the final coin minted featuring the late monarch’s face.

Soon after, coins will be minted featuring the official portrait of King Charles III.

The coins are expected to be extremely collectable with the Rebecca Morgan of the Royal mint saying: “A change in portrait makes this collection a highly sought after one.”

She continued: “This collection of coins serves as a permanent reminder of the fascinating transition from Britain’s longest reigning monarch to His Majesty the King’s first appearance on UK coins.”

The first coins to feature King Charles III are expected to be released in early 2023. These will also form part of the Harry Potter collection.
