Queen Elizabeth II to be laid to rest with the words used at her beloved father’s funeral

One of the final acts of the long story of Queen Elizabeth II will link her to her beloved father once more.

As the Service of Committal at St. George’s Chapel comes to a conclusion, a reading from the Book of Revelation will be given by the Dean of Windsor. The same words were read at the funeral of King George VI in 1952 as well as that of King George V in 1936 and Queen Mary in 1953.

The Service will also contain a special nod to the Duke of Edinburgh. The choir will sing ‘The Russian Contakion of the Departed’ which was sung at Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.

There are two hymns at the Committal Service. The congregation will sing ”All my Hope on God is Founded’ and ‘Christ is Made the Sure Foundation’.

The service will finish with the committal during which the Dean of Windsor will read Psalm 103. The coffin will be lowered and then the Garter King at Arms will read all the titles of Her Late Majesty. A piper will play a lament and walk from the chapel so that the music slowly fades into silence. After that, the National Anthem will be sung.

The Service of Committal takes place at 4pm on September 19th 2022 following the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey at 11am. Later in the evening, the Royal Family will gather for a private burial service. Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest alongside the Duke of Edinburgh in the King George VI Memorial Chapel where her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, also rest. The ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret, are also interred there.
