Queen Camilla chose one of her most striking outfits for Trooping the Colour and there’s an important reason behind her pick.
The Queen arrived at Horse Guards Parade for the annual event in a bright red coat dress with a real military theme.
The dress in question was designed for her by Fiona Clare with a very specific brief in mind. It is meant to resemble the uniform of the Grenadier Guards.

Queen Camilla is the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, a role that is hugely important to her.
Her pick was even more significant in 2026 as it was the Grenadier Guards who were trooping their colour.
The outfit features epaulettes on the shoulders to represent The Queen’s military rank.

Other notable additions to the red coat include ‘The Grenade Fired Proper’ embroidered in gold around the colour. This is an old, traditional term which denotes a flaming symbol and it’s been used for centuries on military outfits.
Completing the look are the gold buttons down the front of the coat.
Queen Camilla has worn this coat to Trooping the Colour before. However, this year, she added a new hat designed by Philip Treacy which features a large ostrich plume, a nod to the bearskins worn by the Grenadier Guards.

As the traditional event got under way, Queen Camilla left Buckingham Palace by coach with King Charles. The carriage procession also included the Princess of Wales who travelled with her three children – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and 8 year old Prince Louis.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester travelled by carriage as did the Duchess of Edinburgh and Sir Tim Laurence.
The Prince of Wales rode to Trooping the Colour alongside Princess Anne and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The traditional military parade took place under bright summer sunshine at Horse Guards Parade with the Princess of Wales joining The King and Queen on the main dais for the ceremony.
The Royal Family later gathered on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the traditional flypast.
