Swedish Crown Princess Couple visits innovation exhibition at Stockholm University

On Monday, the Crown Princess Couple of Sweden paid a visit to the Accelerator art gallery.

The museum, located within the University of Stockholm, and functioning as its cultural centre, has the aim of merging art, science and social sciences in order to find innovative solutions for contemporary challenges.

This aim was especially evident in the exhibition Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel had the opportunity to tour while there.

Experimentalfältette (or “experimental field” in English) was a project carried out in Frescati Park (right outside Stockholm, on the grounds where the university and the museum are currently located) at the beginning of the 19th century in order to modernise the Swedish agricultural sector. This exhibition has borrowed the title to highlight the important innovations in agriculture, housing, and community developing still have in today’s society.

Experimentalfältette showcases the work of eight contemporary artists that are experimenting with the three challenges mentioned right above, which, according to the experts, are the three big challenges of the future, as well as featuring older art pieces and documents from the original project.

The Crown Princess Couple got a tour of the museum facility, as well as the exhibition, by artistic director Richard Julin, professor of art history Mårten Snickare and director and communications manager Tove Nilsson.

Before getting a chance to tour the exhibition, the couple also heard about the institution’s history, current purposes and involvement in contemporary research and objectives for the future.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are heavily involved in the innovative development sector within Sweden, and Europe – one of their first stops in any foreign trip they undergo is always to meet up with the innovation sector of the country.

Prince Daniel is also patron of the Prince Daniel Fellowship Entrepreneurial Awards, which focus on rewarding entrepreneurs who have shown particular inventive in innovating their businesses to match contemporary challenges.
