Today, Prince Oscar, Duke of Skåne, is celebrating his second birthday with his family in Sweden. He is the younger child and only son of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden. He is also the fourth grandchild and second grandson of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
As was done with his older sister, Princess Estelle, new images have been released by the Royal Court of Sweden in celebration. The two-year-old also featured in one picture for his sister’s birthday last month where he was seen smiling and eating cake. The three photos released today for his second birthday were taken by Erika Gerdemark at the family’s home of Haga Palace.
Last year, the Royal Court released several images of the young royal celebrating his first birthday including one of him digging into some birthday cake.
Oscar Carl Olof was born on 2 March 2016 at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Sweden. His birth was celebrated with 21-gun salutes on the island of Skeppsholmen.
His name and title were announced by his maternal grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, in a cabinet meeting on 3 March. His maternal uncle, Prince Carl Philip was also in attendance. A Te Deum service was also held for the newborn prince on the same day with members of the Swedish Royal Family, including big sister Princess Estelle, in attendance. His older cousins, Princess Leonore and Prince Nicolas, did not attend. Members of his paternal family, the Westlings, were there, as well.
Prince Oscar was later christened at the Royal Chapel in Stockholm Palace on 27 May 2016 with his maternal aunt, Princess Madeleine; his father’s cousin, Hans Åström; his mother’s cousin, Oscar Magnuson; Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway.
The Prince is third in the line of succession to the Swedish throne after his mother and older sister.
Oscar will soon be joined by another cousin as his aunt, Princess Madeleine is due any day with her and her husband, Chris O’Neill’s third child.
