Protesters in the Middle East burn pictures of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden

Images of the King of Sweden have been set alight by protesters in several countries in the Middle East in the wake of a series of burnings of the Koran in Sweden.

Muslims around the world have expressed their offence at the Koran burnings. Now, photos of Carl XVI Gustaf have been set on fire in several countries.

The Swedish Royal Court has declined to comment on the matter. Most Swedes condemn the Koran burnings, and most Muslims strongly distance themselves from violent reactions.

The Swedish police have increased security in Sweden in recent days. However, officers believe that the security of the Swedish royal family has not changed.
