Princess Leonore turns five with a new image released

Princess Leonore of Sweden is celebrating her fifth birthday today with her family in warm Miami – where the Princess Family now resides.

As is a custom of the Swedish Royal Family, a new photo has been released by the Swedish Royal Court this morning. The image was taken, believed to be in Florida, by her mother, Princess Madeleine.

Just two days ago, Princess Madeleine shared a photo of Leonore and her younger brother, Prince Nicolas in the swimming pool at their Miami home.

The family is, no doubt, enjoying the warm weather during this time of year in contrast to snowy Sweden or rainy London.

Princess Leonore is not the only young royal who will have photographs released this week. Her older cousin, Princess Estelle, will celebrate her seventh birthday on 23 February, and the Crown Princess Couple will have images of her released via the Royal Court on that day, as well.

Her Royal Highness Princess Leonore Lilian Maria of Sweden, Duchess of Gotland, was born on 20 February 2014 in New York City’s Weill Cornell Medical Center. Due to her birth on US soil and her father being an American citizen, Leonore is both a Swedish and US citizen from birth.

The five-year-old royal is the eldest of Princess Madeleine and her American-British financier husband, Chris O’Neill’s three children. Her younger brother, Prince Nicolas, Duke of Ã…ngermanland, was born in Danderyd, Sweden, on 15 June 2015. Leonore and Nicolas were joined by a baby sister on 9 March 2018. Princess Adrienne, Duchess of Blekinge, was born in Danderyd like her older brother.

The Princess Family moved to Florida in the autumn of 2018.

Princess Leonore attends pre-school in the Miami area and could begin her compulsory schooling this autumn. No information has been announced on where the royal will attend kindergarten.

In the United States, compulsory education begins at either age five or six. Florida’s law requires children to enter school starting at six, as does Sweden. It remains to be seen if the family will relocate to Sweden before Leonore begins her schooling.
