Prince Daniel inaugurates new gallery in Stockholm

Prince Daniel of Sweden has inaugurated Liljevalchs+ in Stockholm, a newly built extension to Liljevalch’s art gallery. Prince Daniel was welcomed to the art gallery by Stockholm City Council chair Cecilia Brinck and museum director Mårten Castenfors.

Together with the art gallery manager, designer Bea Szenfeld and designer Ingegerd Råman, whose selected works are displayed in the new art gallery, the prince finally got a tour of the new premises and the exhibition.

In his inaugural address, the Prince said: “Liljevalchs has received an extension. It is a complement, but also an art gallery in its own right. Thanks to it, even more people can now take part in Liljevalchs, see a larger number of exhibitions and simply experience more art. It goes well with it. The pervasive idea is an abundance of nature and culture that should be open and accessible to as many people as possible. “

The prince continued: “It is through nature and culture that we humans rest and recover. It is active rest for body and soul to walk here at this gallery. And it is active rest for the brain and intellect to come in here and look at art; to let thoughts process the visual impressions. For over a hundred years, the art at Liljevalchs has reflected the present; it has depicted nature, people and interiors, and questioned the dominant thoughts. I look forward to many great art experiences here at Liljevalchs in the future. And it is with great pleasure that I hereby declare the new extension, “Liljevalchs +”, inaugurated.”

During the inauguration, speeches were given by Cecilia Brinck, chair of the City Council, Anders Kindberg, City of Stockholm’s property director, museum director Mårten Castenfors, architect Gert Wingårdh and designer Ingegerd Råman. Musical elements were performed by singer Emelie Garber.
