Prince Carl Philip, Prince Daniel and Princes Sofia honour Sweden’s sporting stars at gala in Stockholm

The annual Swedish Sports Gala, an event honouring the country’s most prominent athletes, took place in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm earlier this week in the presence of royalty – Prince Carl Philip, Prince Daniel and Princess Sofia.

In a night filled with with emotion and humour, Sweden’s major sporing achievements of the past 12 months were recognised.

The show was hosted by popular entertainers Måns Zelmerlöw and Pernilla Wiberg, with notable figures the world of sports and royalty watching on.

During this year’s Swedish Sports Gala, Prince Carl Philip presented a prize to skater Nils van der Poel, with Prince Daniel presenting an award called the ‘Pepper of the Year’.

The Pepper of the Year award at is chosen by the organisation Generation Pep, founded by the Crown Princess Couple. The prize is given to a person, organisation, or initiative that has successfully promoted physical activity among children and young people in Sweden in an inclusive and accessible way.

The winner of this year’s Pepper of the Year award was the initiative Fuzed, a training facility in Helsingborg that combines gaming and sports. The aim of the business is to establish a sustainable gaming industry that promotes a healthy lifestyle and physical activity as an integral part of the gaming experience.

In previous years, Princess Sofia, Prince Daniel and Crown Princess Victoria have also occasionally participated in this gala. For many years, Prince Daniel has been heavily involved in sports and the fight for a more healthy and active society. He has had a passion for sports throughout his life, and following a brief time in the army after graduating from school, he became a fitness instructor and personal trainer before meeting Crown Princess Victoria.
