Prince Carl Philip fined for speeding

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden has been fined for speeding after being caught by cameras at the end of 2021.

The prince, who has driven professionally in rallies for several years, did not contest the fine.

A speed camera in Stockholm captured the prince driving above the speed limit and took a photo of him. On December 4 2021, Prince Carl Philip passed the tunnel Norrtullstunneln on the E20 in a Volvo shortly after seven in the morning. He was recorded as driving at 89 kilometres per hour – the limit on that stretch is 70 kmh.

A report was made automatically and sent to Prince Carl Philip . The prince was told to pay a fine of SEK 2,400 for the offence.

At the end of February 2022, Prince Carl Philip was summoned for questioning due to this speeding offence. During the interview with police, the prince said that he thought the speed limit was 80 kilometres per hour on the stretch. He could not say whether the measured speed was correct but did not question the measurement. The prince was also asked if there were any special circumstances that made him have to drive too fast but replied that this was not the case.

The Swedish Royal Court`s information manager, Margareta Thorgren, issued the following comment to Swedish press on Monday: “What we can say is that this has happened and that the fine has been paid”.
