King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will pay a state visit to Jordan later this year, visiting the Middle Eastern country at the invitation of King Abdullah II.
The Swedish Royal Court announced that the King and Queen would visit Jordan between 15 and 17 November to strengthen the friendly ties between the nations. The state visit will focus on several multilateral and local issues, such as the environment and climate change, sustainable development and economic cooperation, as well as issues surrounding women’s rights, youth and refugees.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will also pay tribute to the 40th anniversary of Sweden’s diplomatic presence in Jordan. During their visit, they will officially open the new Swedish Embassy location and the Swedish Dialogue Institute for the Middle East and North Africa.
The full itinerary of the Swedish State Visit to Jordan will be published closer to the date but is expected to include engagements in the capital region of Amman.
The Swedish government will send representatives including leaders from Swedish businesses to further strengthen the bilateral ties between Sweden and Jordan.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia paid their first state visit to Jordan in 1989 at the invitation of King Hussein.
This will be the first out-going state visit King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will undertake since the coronavirus pandemic began. Their last official state visit occurred in 2019 with a trip to India.
In 2022, they welcomed a state visit from Finland in May and will welcome King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands later this month.
The Dutch State Visit will include engagements in Stockholm and Gothenburg and will focus on issues related to “digital transformation, the energy transition, sustainability and life sciences,” according to the Royal House of the Netherlands.
