Prince Julian was born on 26 March at 11.19 am at Danderyd Hospital weighing 3220 grams to Princess Sofia. He is 49 centimetres long. He was given the names Julian Herbert Folke and he is the Duke of Halland. The middle name Folke is one of the King’s middle names and was the name of Folke Bernadotte (grandson of King Oscar II) who saved many Jews during World War 2. The name Herbert presumably comes from Princess Sofia’s maternal grandfather.

Prince Julian is seventh in line to succeed his grandfather to the Swedish throne. He is King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s eighth grandchild and fifth grandson.

Unlike his older brothers, Princes Alexander and Gabriel, he was not born with the style of Royal Highness. In October 2019, the King revoked the style of Royal Highness from the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia and Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill. They also lost their positions in the Royal House; however, they remain members of the Royal Family and in the line of succession.
