Crown Princess Victoria shares experiences of living outside Sweden

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden

Crown Princess Victoria has sent a digital greeting to the opening of the “Swedes’ Abroad Parliament”. At the parliament, Swedes who lives outside their country, experts and politicians gather to discuss solutions to the challenges that Swedes abroad have in relation to Swedish regulations. The parliament is held every two years, and this year it was broadcast digitally.

In her greeting, Her Royal Highness said: “Throughout history, millions of Swedes have set out to seek happiness abroad. Many have later returned home, with new knowledge, experiences and contacts. In this way, we have built our country’s prosperity, and still do today”.

The Crown Princess continued: “The experience of living abroad for a shorter or longer period is also personally developing. Not because it is always that simple. It can be quite tough. I think many of you have been through that. However, you learn. And maybe you also get an understanding of others in the same situation”.

The Swedish Crown Princess also shared her own experiences of living outside her homeland. Her Royal Highness ended her greeting by saying: “I myself am extremely grateful for the years when I had the opportunity to study and practice in other countries. I still carry those experiences with me today, and I really enjoy them. Therefore, I am also happy for the opportunity to send this greeting to you today”.

Swedes’ Abroad Parliament is arranged by the organization “Swedes in the world”. It is a non-profit and politically independent organization that since 1938 has been working to increase and utilize international experience and competence. This is done, among other things, by conducting advocacy work, being a reference and providing information and support to the 660,000 Swedes who work, study and live abroad, but also to the Swedes abroad who return back to Sweden.
