High tech trip for a future queen

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden

The day started with an agreement to focus on bilateral green transition and ended with the official opening of a new consulate general building, but in between there were driverless cars, artificial intelligence and government meetings.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel continued their four-day visit to California on Tuesday, carrying out engagements in San Francisco and Sacramento related to green transition and AI, as well as governmental meetings.

In the morning, the Crown Princess Couple were in Sacramento for a meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom, to discuss bilateral work between the state and Sweden on green transition.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel were joined by others, including the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell, at the meeting.

Both parties signed a new agreement at the meeting, which, according to a press readout from the Governor’s office, is a five-year cooperation between California and Sweden that will focus on bilateral work “on zero-emissions transportation and infrastructure, local climate action, clean energy and climate-smart agriculture.”

Governor Newsom said: “California and Sweden have led the world in taking ambitious climate action, and now we’re partnering to do even more.

“From advancing zero-emissions technology to collaborating on our clean energy transition, our work together will benefit communities from Stockton to Stockholm.”

Afterwards, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and the delegation paid a visit to the Swedish Consul General, Anna Lekvall, at her offices. They received a tour of the facilities and met with staff before departing for a demonstration on driverless cars in San Francisco.

In the afternoon, the Crown Princess Couple visited Open AI to learn more about artificial intelligence developments, joining the business delegation that accompanied them from Sweden.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel then paid a visit to San Francisco’s mayor, London Breed, at City Hall.

The day ended for the Crown Princess Couple at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where Crown Princess Victoria officially opened the new Swedish Consulate General.

The Consulate supports Swedish people living in California and Hawaii, and officially opened on New Year’s Day. Joining the Crown Princess Couple at the opening event were Mayor Breed and House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.
