Concern for the King and Queen of Sweden as drones are spotted flying over two palaces

There is a concern for the King and Queen of Sweden as drones have been spotted flying over both the Royal Palace in Stockholm and Drottningholm Palace.

It is not known if King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were in either palace when the drones were seen. Their Majesties had been in quarantine due to contracting COVID-19 on 4 January.

The Royal Palace is the Royal Family’s working palace, while Drottningholm Palace is their private residence.

Drones have also been seen flying over various nuclear plants in Sweden.

Over the weekend, a supposed military-style drone around two metres in size was seen flying over the Royal Palace. Photos and videos were captured of the drone at that time flying over the Riksdag (Swedish parliament) and the palace. The police are investigating the incidents.

Then, on Monday evening, 17 January, another “advanced” drone was seen by police over Drottningholm Palace.

According to Aftonbladet, the incidents regarding the flying of drones over nuclear power plants are being investigated as a violation of national security. The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) are investigating.

Unit manager at the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, Emil Jorpes, told the Swedish newspaper, “It naturally raises a lot of questions, and that is why all authorities take it seriously. The questions that are raised are that when several things happen very close in time, it is clear that it raises questions that it is not a coincidence.”

The Royal Court has, so far, made no comment on the incidents.
