Historic Royal Palaces wants “your” royal images

In celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Historic Royal Palaces is asking for your personal royal photos.

Life Through a Royal Lens will feature some of the most iconic royal photographs and will go on display alongside a host of images providing a glimpse of the Royal Family off-duty. Curators from Historic Royal Palaces are asking the public to send in their own photographs whether that be from royal engagements, or possibly a photo from what it’s like to be part of a famous ‘royal walkabout.’ People from around the world are invited to submit, and Kensington Palace curators will select up to 20 photos to join the exhibition.

A revolving digital display will be alongside works by renowned photographers such as Norman Parkinson, Rankin, and Annie Leibovitz. The impact of Cecil Beaton, one of the great shapers of the royal image in the twentieth century who redefined modern royal portraitures will also be on display. It will include showcasing stunning images of Her Majesty The Queen and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother among some of Beaton’s most faithful sitters. While there will be professional photos, there will also be a selection of images taken by members of the Royal Family themselves including photographer and former Palace resident, Lord Snowdon, husband of Princess Margaret.

The exhibit is set to run from 4 March to 30 October 2022 at Kensington Palace. Palace admission will include entrance to the exhibition as well as access to The King’s State Apartments, The Queen’s State Apartments, The King’s Drawing Room, and Victoria: A Royal Childhood. Tickets for those over the age of 18 are priced at £20 with no donation to the charity.

If you would like to submit your own royal photo, you can do so by clicking here. Submissions close on 31 January and you will be contacted directly if your photo is selected.
