Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia have revealed their 2020 Christmas card which features their two daughters, Princess Leonor, 15, and Infanta Sofía, 13.
This year’s card says, in Spanish and English, “May this Christmas bring us a specially hopeful New Year 2021.” The King, Queen and their daughters also have their signatures printed at the bottom with a handwritten message that says: “With our best wishes.”
For those who write to the King and Queen in English, their card will have a handwritten message from the royals in English.
The photo of the Princess of Asturias and Infanta was taken this year in the parish of Somao in the Pravia municipality of Asturias – one of Spain’s provinces in the northern part of the country.
For the past couple of years, the King and Queen’s card has featured a family photo, but this year they chose to highlight their two daughters. Up until 2017, Their Majesties alternated a photo of just their two daughters and a full family photo every other year. However, the last Christmas card to feature just the young royals was 2015; since then, the images have been family portraits.
The Christmas card of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía was also shared; their card is a normal Christmas card that features the “La Natividad” painting by Juan Correa de Vivar that is in the Museum of Prado. Their signatures are also printed on the card with a message in Spanish that translates to “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2021.”
The Spanish royals are the first royals to reveal their Christmas cards or new Christmas photos for 2020. Others are expected to follow in the coming days.
