Queen Letizia of Spain has given an update on the health of her husband, King Felipe, after he tested positive for COVID-19 on 9 February.
When the Queen was visiting a proton therapy centre on 11 February, she told the press that Felipe was doing well with a smile.
Casa Real confirmed the King had tested positive on Wednesday and had mild symptoms. He went into quarantine for seven days, and all of his engagements last week were cancelled.
Queen Letizia and Infanta Sofía, 14, had no symptoms, and both tested negative. The King and Queen’s elder daughter, Leonor, Princess of Asturias, 16, is in school in Wales and therefore was not exposed.
At the time of the King’s diagnosis, Casa Real said that his state of health was good and that he would “maintain his institutional activity from his residence [Zarzuela Palace].”
King Felipe has been vaccinated.
He was not the only monarch to test positive this past week. Queen Margrethe of Denmark tested positive on the same day as Felipe. She also was only exhibiting mild symptoms.
The Prince of Wales tested positive the following day. He had been in contact with his 95-year-old mother, Queen Elizabeth, but Buckingham Palace has not yet made any comments regarding her health. This is the second time Prince Charles has had the virus. He has been vaccinated and is in isolation.
