King Felipe opens leadership forum

King Felipe of Spain opened the Central Act of the 7th edition of the “Global Youth Leadership Forum” in Santander.

King Felipe opened the forum after spending a few minutes with many of those who waited for him upon his arrival at La Magdalena; he greeted and shook hands with them before he was bid farewell to applause and cries of “Long live the King!” His Majesty also stopped to talk with a group of children who presented him with drawings and flowers.

In his speech, the Spanish monarch expressed his hope for Europe’s future and considered it a priority to preserve the fundamentals that define Europeans. He said the brutal war in Ukraine is presented as a serious destabilising factor in Europe and stressed that Europe and its democratic ideals must be defended.

The King said: “The new generations must participate in this time in which fears, doubts and uncertainties threaten security, trust, and certainties. They must now assume a more prominent role. And to do it in a very demanding current moment that requires unity. It is extremely necessary to address any challenge and answer the innumerable questions that are continually raised and advance towards the same objectives.”

President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, also attended the opening, as did other key political leaders such as the President of Cantabria, the Mayor of Santander and government delegations from several European nations. King Felipe is the Honorary President of the Global Youth Leadership Forum and considers this forum to be close to his heart.

The Global Youth Leadership Forum brings together international leaders, experts and businessmen who work to address the main challenges faces the world.
