Princess Ingrid Alexandra visits Norwegian Armed Forces

Princess Ingrid Alexandra continued her visits with the Norwegian Armed Forces, visiting with the Norwegian Army and Navy as she celebrates her 18th birthday year.

The Norwegian Royal Court shared details of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s visits, noting that she visited the Brigade Nord at Setermoen on Tuesday and the Navy’s main logistical base in Northern Norway last week.

During her visit to the Brigade Nord, the Norwegian Royal Court said that Princess Ingrid Alexandra test-drove an armoured car after learning more about the Armoured and Artillery Battalions.

She later participated in a medical exercise with the Medical Battalion, learning how to help an injured soldier who’d been in an explosion before learning more about evacuation vehicles that support the military medics in battle.

During her visit with the Norwegian Navy last week, Princess Ingrid Alexandra was allowed to pilot the Stridsbåt 90 herself. She also learned sanitation and navigation exercises aboard the KV Barentshav and the KNM Glimt, respectively.

These military visits continue with engagements Princess Ingrid Alexandra undertook last year to the Hunter Squad in Rena and a Norwegian Air Force base in Bodø. In an Instagram post, the Norwegian Royal House noted that the Princess’s visits are “the Defence’s gift to the Princess in connection with her 18th birthday in January this year.”

Princess Ingrid Alexandra turned 18 in January of this year, and though she does not carry out official engagements yet, she has conducted military visits.

When she ascends to the Norwegian throne, she will be Norway’s highest-ranking military officer, holding the ranks of General in the Norwegian Army and Norwegian Air Force and Admiral of the Norwegian Navy. She will also be the head of the Norwegian Armed Forces.

Whether or not Princess Ingrid Alexandra will undertake military service like her father and grandfather has not been confirmed by the Norwegian Royal Court.
