King Felipe and Queen Letizia preside over Spanish Language forum

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain ended their week by presiding over the meeting celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Association of Spanish Language Academies.

Their Majesties arrived at the Spanish Royal Academy headquarters in Madrid accompanied by many Spanish authorities, including the President of the Parliament and the Minister of Science and Innovation, as well as several ambassadors and presidents of entities connected with the teaching, promotion and preservation of the Spanish language.

The event started with an intervention by the President of the Spanish Royal Academy (Real Academia Española, or RAE), who also has the role of President of the Association of Spanish Language Academies.

It was then the turn of several academics, who read documents concerning the opening of the Spanish language academies that are part of the association.

Then the annual report “Chronicles of the Spanish Language 2021” was presented, before a few of the presidents of various academies around the world got to take the microphone for their interventions about the status of the Spanish language around the world. Those presidents were from Mexico, Bolivia, Uruguay and Puerto Rico.

The President of the Spanish Royal Academy then got to speak, and he presented two volumes, both the results of two strategic projects. The first is “The Historic Dictionary of the Spanish Language,” and the second is “Spanish Language and Artificial Intelligence.”

RAE’s President then presented Their Majesties with a copy of the “Chronicles of Spanish Language 2021,” as well as another volume titles “Quijo chico.”

It was then King Felipe’s turn to speak; His Majesty highlighted the great work being done over the decades to keep an eye on society’s developments and discoveries, while simultaneously never forgetting the past.

At the end of the roundtable, King Felipe and Queen Letizia held an informal meeting with all authorities present.

The Spanish royals have always been extremely attentive at the world of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Only a few days ago, King Felipe travelled to Colombia for a law meeting.

The family is preparing to celebrate Christmas, as Princess Leonor has had her last day of school for the year in Wales, and is expected to make the trip back to Spain to spend the holidays with her loved ones.
