Infanta Sofía shares new snaps from Portugal as she begins university studies

Infanta Sofia in Lisbon

Infanta Sofía moved to Lisbon, Portugal, earlier this week ahead of beginning her studies at Forward College this week, and the Spanish Royal Court released photos of the young royal to mark the occasion.

The young royal was snapped at landmarks around Lisbon to commemorate the beginning of her university career.

Infanta Sofía is reading for a degree in Politics & International Relations at the Forward College Lisbon campus, but the nature of the programme means that for her second year, she’ll study at the Paris campus before moving to the Berlin campus for her third and final year.

A degree in Politics & International Relations “offers the opportunity to explore the debates, ideas, and issues that permeate global affairs,” according to Forward College’s website.

With this degree, students gain “a well-rounded understanding” of the world and are “empowered to use an array of lenses” to develop insights into global events and how the world can be changed.

Infanta Sofía’s move to Lisbon comes at a busy time for the Spanish Royal Family. Her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia paid an official visit to Egypt this week, while her older sister, Princess Leonor, continues her training at the General Air and Space Academy in San Javier.

Infanta Sofía graduated from UWC Atlantic in Wales earlier this year, a school that Princess Leonor also graduated from. However, unlike her older sister, who will one day be head of the Spanish Armed Forces as queen, Infanta Sofía was not required to undergo military training.

Infanta Sofía will begin her studies on 22 September. The cost of her tuition will be privately paid for by King Felipe and Queen Letizia.
