Crown Prince Alexander says “peace and love will prevail” in New Year charity celebration

The Serbian Crown Prince Couple have long worked hard to raise funds for vital causes to improve the Serbian health system. Over the Christmas period, the royal couple hosted a charity event at the White Palace in Belgrade together with the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Dutch-Serbian Business Association.

The funds collected will support the traditional Christmas receptions that Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine will host at the White Palace on January 5. These receptions have been a tradition since 2001 and bring joy to over a thousand orphans, children with special needs, and socially vulnerable children during the holiday season. The event featured a musical program and a charity raffle prize draw at the end of the evening.

Unfortunately, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were unable to attend due to prior obligations abroad, but a letter from Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine was read the those who attended. The royals are still expected to attend the reception on Thursday this week.

The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrate Christmas this week, in contrast to the Catholic and Lutheran Churches which celebrate Christmas on December 24 and 25. The Crown Prince has nevertheless wished all Catholics and Lutherans a Merry Christmas in a special message that came last week.

His Royal Highness then said: “I wish all believers, who celebrate the day of Christ’s birth according to the new calendar, to spend Christmas in peace, health, and joy with their loved ones.

Although times are difficult, the birth of our Lord gives us hope, as it always did through centuries. Hope that united in the wishes for peace and prosperity of the entire civilization, all good people around the world will make it possible that the future becomes better.

That peace and love will prevail and be victorious. May the birth of our Savior remind us all of the importance of unity and standing together and supporting each other in times of need. It is the true spirit of Christmas.”
