Princess Sophie of Romania participated in the opening of her personal photo exhibition “Romania’s Journey”, organized at the Walbrzyska BWA Art Gallery at Ksiaz Castle, in Poland. The exhibition of Her Royal Highness presents a visual journey to the heart of Romania, and visitors have the opportunity to admire expressive portraits and picturesque landscapes from Romania.

Princess Sophie was welcomed by the mayor of Walbrzych, the director of Walbrzyska Castle, the curator of the exhibition and the president of the Princess Daisy von Pless Foundation. The photos taken by Princess Sophie are a visual celebration of the landscape, cultural heritage and the rural environment in Romania. Furthermore, the exhibition aims to highlight the rich and diverse history of Romania, presenting many “Romanian treasures”, known and less known.

Her Royal Highness managed to capture the spirituality and religious life of the Romanians in an authentic form. The exhibition takes place between September 4-30, 2021 and is the first presentation of the photographs by Princess Sophie in Poland.

With this exhibition, the Princess continues the tradition of her late father, King Michael; she said previously that she had inherited her love of photography from him. Princess Sophie’s first exhibitions were in the late 1970s, in St. Tropez and Monte Carlo. Then, after two and a half years of study of fine arts and photography in the United States, she spent months in total isolation in Maine’s Acadia National Park, preparing a series of paintings of the rocky North Atlantic seacoast in acrylic on wood. There, she exhibited on both American coasts, including Nantucket, Palm Beach, and Los Angeles. She also exhibited in Nassau, the Bahamas.

Princess Sophie of Romania is the fourth daughter of King Michael and Queen Anne of Romania. She was born at the Tatoi Palace in Decelea, then the Kingdom of Greece, in exile in 1957. Her Royal Highness was educated in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Princess Sophie has exhibited her photography for a number of years and has held exhibitions in France and Romania. In addition, she took part in the Royal Bridges Art Exhibition in Dubai in 2016.

She currently resides in Romania.
