The Norwegian Royal Family participated as spectators during the ski festival in Holmenkollen, just north of the capital of Oslo.
King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Princess Astrid were at the Holmenkollen ski festival that is currently taking place in Oslo.
King Harald and Princess Astrid had the opportunity to witness Norway’s triumph in both the five-mile and combined races for women and men.
The men competed on Saturday, while the women had their competition on Sunday, where Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Ingrid Alexandra joined the King and his sister.
March 12 marked the inaugural five-mile race for women in the World Cup, adding to the excitement.
The Norwegian monarch and consort congratulated Jarl Magnus Riiber and Gyda Westvold Hansen for their combined victory in the King’s Cup on Saturday. Simen Hegstad Krüger also claimed the five-mile victory in Holmenkollen, beating nine fellow Norwegians.
Maiken Caspersen Falla, a Norwegian cross-country skier and Austrian ski jumper Stefan Kraft, received the prestigious Holmenkollen Medal, the highest recognition in Norwegian skiing. The medals were presented by His Majesty on 12 March. Additionally, Jørgen Graabak, a Nordic combined skier, received the award he won in 2021.
The event is one of Norway’s largest annual sports events; it is estimated that this past weekend had around 120,000 spectators.
Royal attendance at the festival has been a tradition dating back to 1906. In 1911, Crown Prince Olav sat on the Royal Tribune for the first time, and just over a decade later, he participated in the ski jump competition, making him the first royal ever to do so.
