King Harald set to return to royal duties after two months sick leave

The King of Norway will take up his official duties again after an absence of almost two months caused by illness.

King Harald, 87, hasn’t carried out any engagements since the middle of February when he was taken ill during a holiday to Malaysia.

He was treated in hospital there after contracting an infection and had to have a temporary pacemaker fitted before he was well enough to return to Norway.

Once back in Oslo, he spent more time in hospital and had a permanent pacemaker during his stay.

The heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, was already acting as regent when his father was taken ill and has continued in that role for the past two months.

However, that will change on April 22nd 2024. The Norwegian Royal Court has issued a diary of forthcoming engagements which show that King Harald will be back on duty from then and his heir is once more described as the Crown Prince rather than the Crown Prince Regent.
