Crown Prince Haakon remembers the fallen at special service in Oslo

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway represented the Norwegian Royal Family at an important annual event on Sunday.

The Norwegian Crown Prince visited the National Veteran Monument in Oslo on Sunday, 3 November to mark National Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The day is observed to remember those who have lost their lives serving Norway, both in the country and elsewhere.

In his role as regent, he laid a wreath for the Norwegian royal family. He was joined by the President of the Storting, Masud Gharahkhani, the Minister of Defense, Bjørn Arild Gram, and the Chief of Defense, Eirik Kristoffersen at the ceremony in Oslo.

Crown Prince Haakon then took part in the memorial and intercession service in Akershus Castle Church where he lit the Memorial Candle of the Armed Forces.

Akershus Castle is a mediaeval fortress that dates back to the late thirteenth century. The fortress is still an active military area and also houses the Royal Mausoleum.

On Monday, the Crown Prince also visited the Al-Noor Mosque in Bærum. In 2019, the mosque was attacked by a 21 year old man.

Following the attack, the mosque helped to found the 10th Foundation. Crown Prince Haakon was able to learn about the foundation’s memory and learning centre where deradicalisation prevention is taught and shared.
