Is Monaco preparing for Princess Charlene’s return?

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco

Prince Albert II of Monaco has revealed that his wife, Princess Charlene, is recovering well and could return to Monaco in the near future.

Speaking to Monaco-Matin newspaper, Prince Albert said that his wife is ”doing much better and I hope she will be back in the Principality very soon.”

Charlene has been treated at an undisclosed clinic since November 2021 when she returned from an extended stay in South Africa. Since then, Prince Albert has given several updates on Charlene’s condition. It’s understood that the couple’s twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, have spent plenty of time with their mother including visits over Christmas.

Princess Charlene spent over six months in her home country after falling ill at the start of a planned visit focused on conservation work. She developed an ear, nose and throat infection brought on by earlier surgery and was unable to fly. Following a series of treatments and operations, she was able to return to Monaco in November 2021. However, within hours she had been admitted to the clinic.

Since then, there has been much speculation over when she will return to public life. However, she was absent from many of Monaco’s Christmas celebrations and also missed events marking the feast day of the Principality’s patron saint, Devote, which took place in January.

Charlene, who turned 44 in January, has shared some messages on her personal Instagram account during her treatment including a tribute to Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
