Prince Albert of Monaco releases major statement as Princess Charlene’s mystery absence continues

Prince Albert of Monaco has released a major statement regarding Monégasque-Russian relations as the city-state’s leader continues to work in the absence of Princess Charlene.

The Princely Palace announced that Monaco is imposing economic sanctions against Russia in the wake of the war in Ukraine.

The sanctions will similar to those already imposed by the majority of European countries, including the freezing of assets.

This news is particularly significant coming from Monaco, which is home to many wealthy Russian oligarchs.

A statement read: “The Principality has adopted and implemented, without delay, procedures for freezing funds and economic sanctions identical to those taken by most European States.”

The Royal Palace denied to expand on whose assets would be frozen.

The news comes as Princess Charlene misses yet another event in Monaco as her mystery absence continues.

Princess Charlene has continued to receive treatment outside of Monaco for her undisclosed illness. However, Prince Albert gave an update earlier this month expressing his hope that she will be back in the principality very soon and that she is doing much better.

Charlene has been treated at an undisclosed clinic since November 2021 when she returned from an extended stay in South Africa. Since then, Prince Albert has given several updates on Charlene’s condition. It’s understood that the couple’s twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, have spent plenty of time with their mother including visits over Christmas.

Princess Charlene spent over six months in her home country after falling ill at the start of a planned visit focused on conservation work. She developed an ear, nose and throat infection brought on by earlier surgery and was unable to fly. Following a series of treatments and operations, she was able to return to Monaco in November 2021. However, within hours she had been admitted to the clinic.
