New photos of Prince Charles of Luxembourg released for first birthday

The Grand Ducal Court released four new photos of Prince Charles of Luxembourg yesterday to mark his first birthday.

The images were taken by court photographer Sophie Margue.

Some of these photos also feature in a set of commemorative postage stamps issued by the Luxembourg Post for his birthday. The stamps retrace his first year of life – from the first images released by the Grand Ducal Court after his birth to his first birthday photos.

Prince Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume of Luxembourg was born on 10 May 2020 in Luxembourg City’s Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte (Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital). He is the first child of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie and is second in line to the throne.

Charles’s baptism took place on 19 September 2020 at the Abbaye Saint-Maurice de Clervaux (Abbey of St. Maurice and St. Maurus of Clervaux) in Luxembourg. His paternal uncle, Prince Louis, and maternal aunt, Countess Gaëlle de Lannoy, were named as godparents.

Since his birth in 2020, the young royal has accompanied his parents on several engagements including one yesterday where a cherry tree was planted in his honour in the commune of Contern in southern Luxembourg.
