Luxembourg’s royals reunited after 16 months apart in joyful family pictures

The summer of 2021 represented hope for many, after 17 months spent apart, physically distant and without the certainty of when they could see each other again.

Luxembourg’s Grand Ducal Family was evidently no exception, as they shared their joy at being finally reunited for the first time since March of 2020 in a series of pictures.

Shot presumably in Cabasson, the family’s summer residence in the South of France, the pictures are an ode to family, unity and joy.

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who themselves figure in two of the pictures lovingly looking at each other, have five children: Guillaume, Félix, Louis, Alexandra and Sébastien.

Alexandra, born in 1991, and Sébastien, born in 1992, are not married, nor engaged, but the older three children have families of their own, now, which makes the big family portrait an even more valuable memory to keep, both for the national archives and for personal family treasures.

The Hereditary Grand Ducal Family has three pictures in the album; in one, Prince Charles is in his mum’s arms, and the trio is flashing big smiles at the camera. In the others, the young prince is seen taking his first steps in the water, one with both his parents and one with just Stéphanie.

Then there’s a family portrait of Prince Félix, his wife, Princess Claire, and their two children, Princess Amalia (born in 2014) and Prince Liam (born in 2016). The two princesses are seen donning matching dresses, while Prince Liam sits comfortably in his father’s arms.

The last of the small family portraits was dedicated to Prince Louis, his children and his fiancé. Prince Gabriel and Prince Noah were born from Prince Louis’s previous marriage to Tessy Antony de Nassau, who has now remarried and just gave birth to another son. On the 6th of April 2021, the Grand Ducal Court announced the engagement of Prince Louis and Ms Scarlett-Lauren Sirgue. The lawyer seems to have been happily accepted both by Prince Louis’s children and by the family at large, judging from the position she has within the rest of the family in other pictures.

The album also features three big family portraits, one taken in a garden with the family essentially in one single line, another was taken on a terrace in front of the sea, and the last was taken on a set of steps, on which the grandchildren and the women are seated, with the Grand Ducal Couple standing behind them, flanked by their four sons.

Finally, the Grand Ducal Court published a picture of the Grand Ducal Couple with all of their grandchildren.

It was no doubt a great joy for the family to finally be able to be reunited and celebrate all the things that they had missed celebrating in person.
