Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg has had a successful operation on her knee.
The Grand Ducal Court announced yesterday:
“This morning, Thursday, October 10, Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess underwent knee surgery at the Eich Clinic by Professor Romain Seil requiring immobilisation of the operated limb for a period of several weeks.
“The operation was successful.”
It was announced last week that Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, 63, would be having a knee operation. At the time, the Grand Ducal Court said the surgery was scheduled for Tuesday, 8 October.
The King and Queen of the Belgians are due to undertake a state visit to Luxembourg later this month from 15 to 17 October, and the Grand Duchess’s participation is not likely based on the press release from the Court. As the visit begins in just a couple of days, her knee will very likely have not healed enough for her to be able to participate.
If the Grand Ducal Court makes any announcements regarding her participation in the state visit, Royal Central will keep you updated.
Maria Teresa is the wife of Grand Duke Henri, who has been on the throne since 7 October 2000 when his late father, Grand Duke Jean, abdicated. Together, they have five children and four grandchildren.
