Grandchildren of monarchs: Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg have five grandchildren: Prince Gabriel, Prince Noah, Princess Amalia, Prince Liam and Prince Charles. To continue our series, we are taking a look at each of his five grandchildren.

Prince Gabriel of Nassau

Born on 12 March 2006 in Geneva, Prince Gabriel Michael Louis Ronny of Nassau is the first child of Prince Louis and his former wife, Tessy Antony de Nassau. Gabriel was the first grandchild for Grand Duke Henri, but he is not in the line of succession. His father gave up his succession rights and those of his descendants when he married Tessy in 2006. Gabriel did not hold the style of Royal Highness or the title of prince until Grand Duke Henri gave him the title and style alongside his younger brother and mother on National Day in 2009.

Prince Noah of Nassau

Prince Noah Etienne Guillaume Gabriel Matthias Xavier of Nassau was born on 21 September 2007 in Luxembourg as the second child of Louis and Tessy. Like his brother Gabriel, he did not hold the style of Royal Highness or the title of prince until Grand Duke Henri gave him the title and style alongside his older brother and mother on National Day in 2009. Due to his father giving up his succession rights, Noah is not in the line of succession to the Luxembourgish throne.

The only granddaughter of Grand Duke Henri, Princess Gabriela Maria Teresa of Nassau, was born on 15 June 2014 in Luxembourg as the first child of Prince Félix and Princess Claire. Until the 2020 birth of her paternal cousin, Prince Charles, Amalia was a future Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. She is now fourth in the line of succession. She resides in Germany with her family.

On 10 May 2020, the long-awaited heir was born in Luxembourg to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie. Prince Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume of Luxembourg is third in the line of succession. He is the only grandchild of the monarch to be a Prince of Luxembourg as he is in the direct line of succession and will one day be the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
