Theatre trip for Prince Joachim and family as they continue stay in Denmark

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie with their children on a theatre trip

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and their children, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena, have enjoyed a theatre night in downtown Copenhagen. The Danish royals where gathered at Grønnegårds Theatre to watch the performance “Jean de France”. The play is an old comedy written by the Norwegian born autho,r Ludvig Holberg. The family was greeted on arrival by theatre director Steen Stig Lommer and actor Nicolai Jørgensen who plays the main role in the play.

In 1722, Ludvig Holberg completed the comedy “Jean de France”, which follows the young Hans Frandsen, who returns excitedly from a stay in France with his strong attitude and French manners under the name Jean de France. Ludvig Holberg was born in 1684 in Bergen, Norway, and died in 1754 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was a Norwegian-Danish author and historian who lived most of his adult life in Denmark.

This is just one of several events that Prince Joachim has taken part in recent days as he and his family spend part of their summer in Denmark. The family usually lives in Paris, where the prince works as Denmark’s defence attaché to the French Republic. The prince himself is half-French through his French-born father, Prince Henrik.

This last weekend the Prince attended his first major car race after his brain surgery last year. It is now a year since the younger son of Queen Margrethe suffered a life threatening blood clot. Prince Joachim was admitted to the University Hospital of Toulouse in July 2020 and immediately operated on for a blood clot in the brain.
