Two new gala portraits have been released in Denmark to close out Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee year.
One photograph features the Queen with her two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, and their wives, Crown Princess Mary and Princess Marie.
The second photo is just of Queen Margrethe with her heir and his spouse.

Both images were taken by Per Morten Abrahamsen in the Hall of Knights in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg. The location is special as this hall leads to the balcony where the Royal Family greets the public.

The release of the new gala portraits is a Danish royal tradition; the Royal Family reveals new images on important anniversaries.
The Royal House said: “It is an old tradition that on anniversaries in the Royal Palace, new portraits are published, and as an end to the jubilee year, two new gala portraits of the Queen and the Royal Family are published today.
“The gala portraits were created by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen in the Hall of Knights in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg. It is from this hall, among other things, that the Queen and the royal family traditionally step out onto the balcony on birthdays to receive the people’s congratulations from the Palace Square.”
Queen Margrethe is pictured in the same outfit from an earlier set of images released for her Golden Jubilee at the end of 2021.
