Documentary to air ahead of Prince Christian’s birthday

A new documentary will air in Denmark the night before Prince Christian’s 18th birthday, tracing his journey to understanding the role he’ll play in the monarchy’s future.

Prince Christian and his father, Crown Prince Frederik, visited Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Church and the Ministry of Defence as part of the young prince’s educational journey.

Prince Christian’s 18th birthday is history being written right before our eyes, and a big day for the archives. It is an heir to the throne who grows up and one day will be king of Denmark,” said Kirsten Marie Svendsen, the chief editor at DR Nyheder, in a press release.

“At the same time, it is a completely unique generational portrait… Our ambition with the coverage is to gather the Danes with a large and ambitious coverage of the birthday over a whole week across our programs and channels.”

‘Prince Christian — A Royal Journey’ will air on DRTV and DR1 on Saturday, 14 October. The next day, the Prince’s 18th birthday, will see DRTV broadcast throughout the day from the festivities.

One of the day’s hosts, Ulla Essendrop, said, “It is a very special look into the future to celebrate the 18th birthday of Denmark’s future king, Prince Christian. I am excited to see how the new generations occupy the castle and how the Royal House makes renewal and history go hand in hand into the future. It will be an interesting day with the always well-dressed Kåre and a swarm of pleasant and gifted guests.”

Coverage will begin at 10:00 a.m. and includes Prince Christian’s balcony appearance at noon at Frederik VIII’s Palace and the gala dinner in the evening for family, dignitaries and other 18-year-olds from around Denmark.
