Crown Princess Mary got a big surprise when her four children revealed their secret contributions to a birthday documentary shown this weekend.

“Mary 50 years – we celebrate Denmark’s Crown Princess” showed the four talking about their mother in a number of features. Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine revealed, among many surprises, how the Crown Princess prepares for her many tasks and speeches.

Mary’s eldest child, and second in line to the throne, Prince Christian says of her work: “It must always be done thoroughly. It must be absolutely perfect. If she has been on a journey, she comes home and tells what she has experienced, what she has done and where she has been. If she has been to Africa, she tells a little about the schools. How the children experience it. And it gives the four of us an insight into how well we actually have it here in Denmark”.

“If you have a hard time with something, or it has been a hard day at school, she is always good at just getting it talked out“, says Princess Isabella. “And you should never ever give up. You always have to keep going, because at some point, you will succeed”, Prince Christian adds.

Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine, Princess Isabella and Prince Christian praise their mother for her ability to sing, dance and play instruments: “I think she is very good at dancing”, says Prince Vincent. “She is especially fond of the air guitar when rock music is played”, adds Prince Christian. “She is good at playing drums”, says Princess Isabella. And then comes the sweetest comment from Vincent about his mother: “And she says she is old. She is not.”

The children can also reveal something they often help their mother with. As is well known, the Crown Princess was born Australian and thus has a slight accent, even though she speaks very good Danish. The children reveal that the mother still has some expressions that sound funny in Danish. Among other things, the words “apple” and “little” are something the Crown Princess has not quite mastered, despite repeated corrections from her four children. It also turns out that the Crown Princess does not take this seriously because the answer is always that even if she does not say it perfectly, it is good enough.
