Crown Princess Mary opens new hospital in Herlev

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark participated on Thursday in the inauguration of the new Herlev Hospital’s Emergency Room and Woman-Child Centre. Her Royal Highness presided over the official inauguration by cutting a red rope. The inauguration was also attended by Danish Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke and Regional Council Chairman Sophie Hæstorp Andersen.

After the official inauguration, the Crown Princess was shown around the new Emergency Room. Here, Her Royal Highness visited one of the hospital’s trauma rooms. On the hospital’s fifth floor, the Crown Princess took part in a tour of a bed section and was shown a bedroom. The three round bed floors in the emergency room are furnished with 81 bedrooms on each floor. All rooms are single rooms and have views of green areas.

For the first time in seven months, the Crown Princess again elegantly cut the red rope and thus festively marked the opening of the new facilities. The last time she did so was on 28 October 2020 at the inauguration of the new national health centre in Odense. To the press who attended Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess said: “It is very impressive to see the hospital of the future, there are some beautiful buildings”.

With the new Emergency Room and Woman-Child Centre, the hospital will be expanded by 56,000 square meters. The new hospital buildings offers, among other things, a common emergency room, almost 300 new single rooms and green surroundings. The buildings consist of two square bases with round floors upstairs. The two bases are connected by the hospital’s new main entrance. Hospital Herlev opens its doors to patients on 20 June 2021.

The newly created green areas will contribute to a healing and sensual experience for the hospital’s patients. The gardens are decorated with different themes, and in connection with the inauguration, the Crown Princess visited the “Primeval Forest garden”, which is decorated like a lush garden with tall trees and shrubs. Around the garden, several oak trees which back in 2015 were dug up to make room for the new building.
