Crown Princess Mary lays foundation stone for new hospital

A new large hospital in Denmark has long been planned. Through the initial process, there has also been active royal participation from Crown Princess Mary. The hospital will be named after the Danish Crown Princess, and this week the Crown Princess participated in an important ceremony. Crown Princess Mary laid the foundation stone for the new hospital, and she also placed a time capsule for the future.

The Danish Crown Princess gave a speech in which she said: «I have been looking forward to today. Because today we are laying the foundation stone for a new ground-breaking hospital. A hospital for children, adolescents, pregnant women and their families. Where treatment, security, well-being and motivation go hand-in-hand».

When the Crown Princess was finished, she put her notes in the time capsule, together with, among other things, a red heart made of Lego, a stuffed animal and a stethoscope.

The new hospital will focus on caring for children, young people and pregnant women and will have 179 single rooms, 87 other patient rooms and 13 operating rooms. The building’s 60,000 square meters are on eight floors and will be able to accommodate up to 900 patients at a time. Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital will open in 2026.

As a patron of several organizations in the social and health field, Her Royal Highness has for a long time been involved in the sphere of physical as well as mental health, but also internationally as a patron of the WHO. Diseases and ailments among children, in particular, have had the Crown Princess’ attention, which is why the naming after Her Royal Highness has a very special significance for the Crown Princess.
