Crown Princess Mary attends presentation of EliteForsk Awards for research

Crown Princess Mary helped present Denmark’s most prestigious research prizes earlier this week.

The EliteForsk Awards, founded and presented annually by the Ministry of Education and Research, presents five prizes to the country’s top researchers and research students.

According to the EliteForsk website, “The purpose of the EliteForsk initiative is to raise awareness of outstanding researchers and the results of the research. In addition, EliteForsk must also highlight the researchers as role models in order to attract more young students to a research career.”

Crown Princess Mary is regularly involved in the presentation of the EliteForsk prizes. This year’s honorees include protein researcher Alexander Kai Büll; Dorthe B. Ravnsbæk; an interdisciplinary researcher interested in animals and plants, Eline Lorenzen; brain researcher Per Borghammer; and Poul Fritz Kjær.

The Danish Royal Court shared photos of Crown Princess Mary at the EliteForsk Awards with the caption: “Five younger Danish researchers have delivered top-notch research of international class, and therefore the researchers were honoured today with the prestigious EliteForsk-prize for their ground-breaking results. Together with Minister of Education and Research Christina Egelund, Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess, awarded the five awards in the Foyer of the Skuespilhuset.

“The awardees have, among other things, found solutions on how to manufacture batteries more sustainably, as well as formed new knowledge and understanding of Parkinson’s disease.”

Crown Princess Mary was accompanied by Education and Research Minister Christina Egelund at the ceremony in Copenhagen. The EliteForsk Awards were first presented in 2007.

This marked Crown Princess Mary’s first engagements since taking a break earlier this month. Her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe, will undergo back surgery later this week.

The Danish Royal Court further announced that the Crown Prince Couple will pay an official visit to India towards the end of the month, from 26 February to 3 March.
