Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary begin important Vietnam tour with poignant visit

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark are currently on a trip to Vietnam to strengthen economic and diplomatic relations between the two nations. And their visit got off to a poignant start.

The couple arrived in Vietnam on the evening of October 31st 2022, where they then privately visited the childhood home of the Crown Prince’s father, Prince Henrik of Denmark. They shared images of themselves at the house and said, in a personal message on the official Danish royal social media accounts, that Prince Henrik would be in their thoughts in the coming days.

On November 1st 2022, their first full day in the country, they followed a packed agenda.

The day began before seven in the morning when the Crown Prince and Princess paid a visit to Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum. Right after the visit, the royals were officially welcomed by Vietnam’s Vice President Vo Thị Anh Xuan. After the official reception, the royals paid a courtesy visit to the President of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc before they participated in the opening of a Danish-Vietnamese business conference.

Crown Prince Frederik also took part in the opening of the wind energy conference, where the Crown Prince gave the opening speech. Vietnam and Denmark share great ambitions in the area of energy and climate, and 14 major Danish companies signed co-operation agreements with Vietnamese companies with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary as witnesses.

The Crown Prince and Princess also attended a lunch hosted by the vice president’s before meeting the participating Danish companies in the business delegation that is accompanying the royals during their visit. The afternoon began with a visit to Hoan Kiem Lake, where the Crown Prince and Crown Princess attended a water puppet show and were shown special traditional paintings.

On the evening of the first day, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark participated in the gala dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam at Hilton Hotel Hanoi, before attending a grand show in the Hanoi Opera. The Crown Princess gave a speech during the day’s last event.
