Crown Prince Christian celebrates birthday with new portrait

Crown Prince Christian may be away from Denmark, but that doesn’t mean he’s not celebrating his birthday in royal tradition: a brand-new portrait to mark his 19th birthday.

The royal, who earlier this year became Crown Prince of Denmark and has acted as regent on several occasions, is marking his birthday in east Africa.

The Danish Royal Court shared a new photo of the future king and captioned it as “celebrating the day under warmer skies.” The Court has not named the country Crown Prince Christian is currently staying in for privacy reasons, and have not been providing updates on his life while he’s away.

Crown Prince Christian left for east Africa in early September for work that will see him “involved in the daily operation of two farms, which will, among other things, include practical and administrative tasks and also give The Crown Prince insight into local nature protection,” according to the Court.

Queen Mary said, hours after saying goodbye to her eldest son, “We are looking forward to everything he will experience and learn on his journey, but at the same time we will miss him unimaginably.”

Crown Prince Christian is expected to return to Denmark in December.
