Another royal first for Denmark’s Prince Christian

Prince Christian of Denmark has marked another first in his young royal life.

Now that the future King of Denmark is an adult, the first-ever gala pictures of the Prince have been published.

Taken by Dennis Stenild, Prince Christian is seen in formal wear with the Order of the Elephant he was granted on 15 October by his grandmother, Queen Margrethe. He is also wearing various commemorative medals bestowed on him by his grandmother throughout the years.

The portraits were taken in the Hall of Knights in Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg on 15 October 2023.

The tradition of gala portraits of the Danish Royal Family goes back many years. Originally, the royals were depicted in paintings, but in line with the times, most recent gala portraits have been photographs. The official pictures are taken of the adult members of the Danish Royal Family on or to celebrate important occasions. The 18th birthday of a future monarch is one such occasion.

The Danish Royal House also released additional family portraits of Prince Christian and his family from his birthday celebration.

The family posed for the images just before they left for the gala dinner Queen Margrethe hosted on 15 October for Prince Christian at Christiansborg Palace.

Prince Christian is seen alongside his parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, and his three younger siblings: Princess Isabella (16), Prince Vincent (12) and Princess Josephine (12).
