A trip to India in the cards for Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will undertake their first official overseas visit this year later this month, travelling to India as part of an economic delegation.

From 26 February to 1 March, the Crown Prince Couple will visit India under the banner of “Partners for Green and Sustainable Progress” to highlight “green transition,” according to the Danish Royal Court. A particular focus will be on water and energy during the four-day visit.

A 36-business delegate will accompany Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary during the visit, and all—including their Indian counterparts—will take part in seminars and corporate to highlight the connection between Danish and Indian companies. The purpose will be to promote export opportunities and highlight green partnerships between the countries.

Queen Margrethe previously welcomed Indian Prime Minister Modi to Denmark in 2022, and this visit is billed as a continuation of the work started there.

According to the Danish Royal Court, the Crown Prince Couple will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke, and Climate, Energy and Supply Minister Lars Aagaard.

The Danish delegation will visit New Delhi, the capital city of India, and Chennai, located in southeast India. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will visit Agra, as well, to tour landmarks, including the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort.

The Danish Royal Court said that the “purpose of the Crown Prince Couple’s foreign visits has always been to strengthen relations between Denmark and the visiting countries as well as to support the growth and position of Danish companies in the relevant markets.”

Last year, the royal couple visited the Netherlands and Vietnam on behalf of green initiatives, while Crown Princess Mary paid a solo visit to Norway to discuss green opportunities.

While they are in India, Princess Benedikte will act as regent, as Queen Margrethe will still be recovering from an extensive back surgery performed on 22 February.

A full itinerary will be published closer to their visit.
